altPioneer ha oggi annunciato il nuovo modello di Blu Ray capace di immagazzinare dati fino  a 15 volte di più rispetto agli attuali modelli . Grazie infatti ai suoi 16 strati da 25 GB ciascuno, questo nuovo modello riuscirà a contenere 400 GB di dati e sarà compatibile con la maggior parte dei lettori in commercio, inclusa quindi anche PlayStation 3. Tutto questo sarà possibile grazie ad un semplice aggiornamento software che permetterà la lettura del nuovo formato anche ai modelli attuali. Si aprono quindi senza limite per i programmatori di videogames, che potranno quindi sfruttare l'enorme spazio disponibile per ogni loro capriccio.

Il prezzo sarà almeno inizialmente elevato e la commercializzazione partirà dal 2010 e comincierà a diffondersi su larga scala non prima del 2012.
