treno giapponeseTokyo - Lunedì è iniziato un divieto di fumare totale sui treni Kyuko (gli espressi) e i Tokkyu (espressi rapidi). L'area interessata è quella dell'Honshu (l'isola principale del Giappone, dove c'è Tokyo) e la decisione rende la maggior parte dei treni JR per non fumatori. Al momento risultano ancora disponibili vetture per fumatori su treni notturni, sugli Shinkansen Tokaido - Sanyo (ovvero la tratta che collega Tokyo al Kyushu, l'isola più a sud) e alcuni treni con destinazione Shikoku.

La JR aveva già introdotto il divieto nell'Hokkaido e nel Kyushu, con estensione anche sui treni che percorrono tratte non JR.
