Aso Taro, Medvedev,Yuzhno-Sakahlinsk, Russia - Il Primo Ministro giapponese Taro Aso e il presidente russo Dmitry Medvedev si sono incontrati questa mattina (ora locale) a Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, la capitale dell'isola di Sakhalin in Russia (isola vicinissima all'Hokkaido). Aso è il primo leader nipponico a far visita all'isola.

La notizia è di grande rilevanza, dato che in passato furono molti gli attriti e le lotte per il controllo della zona, che ancora oggi porta i segni di due culture completamente mischiate. La questione del controllo è tra l'altro ancora tutta da risolvere.

"Spero che la Russia mostri un nuovo approccio alla questione" ha affermato il ministro degli esteri, anche se "la posizione del Giappone a riguardo non è fondamentalmente cambiata".
