Secondo l'agenzia di stampa giapponese Kyodo sono 9079 le vittime accertate che hanno perso la vita nel terremoto e nel conseguente tsunami che hanno colpito il Giappone lo scorso 11 marzo. I dispersi sarebbero poco più di 12500, sono invece 320000 gli sfollati accolti nei campi allestiti per l'emergenza.

Nella centrale nucleare di Fukushima sono riprese invece le operazioni di raffreddamento dei reattori e sono stati fatti passi avanti anche sul fronte del collegamento a una linea elettrica esterna, anche se la situazione rimane comunque critica.
